How do we enable the DesignPLUS Transformation Wizard for our institution?

In your DesignPLUS Primary Customizations Course, edit the Account Settings to "Enable the Transformation Wizard Button for all users." Additionally, choose to enable or disable AI features.

The amazing DesignPLUS Transformation Wizard helps educators and designers transform existing Canvas content to optimize visual appeal, navigation, and accessibility! Follow the steps below to configure the Transformation Wizard, as well as choosing whether to include AI features.

Enable the Transformation Wizard

  1. Open your institution's Primary Customizations Course (or an Extended Customizations Course, if you want the Wizard available only to a particular Canvas subaccount).
  2. Edit the [Account Settings] page in your customizations course.
  3. Open the Advanced panel of the DesignPLUS Sidebar. 
    1. If you do not see the Advanced panel, use the kebab (More Options) menu of the sidebar, select User Settings, and enable all advanced tools.
  4. Select the Account Settings tool.
  5. Find the "Enable Transformation Wizard" section.
  6. Check the "Modify this Setting" checkbox.
  7. Check the "Show the Transformation Wizard Button to all users" checkbox.
  8. Save the page.

If you would like to test the Transformation Wizard and/or prepare your own training materials before launching it to your entire institution, you may enable it within a Canvas Sub-account. Simply follow the steps above, but within an Extended Customizations Course, instead of a Primary Customizations Course.

Disable AI features in the Transformation Wizard

By default, the Transformation Wizard uses AI features to identify and generate headings, icons, and image alt text. While account administrators can choose to disable these features, keep in mind that this will limit the Transformation Wizard experience for users working in the account/sub-account associated with this [Account Settings] page. This setting does not affect the AI-powered Design Assistant.

  1. Edit the [Account Settings] page in your customizations course.
  2. Open the Advanced panel of the DesignPLUS Sidebar.
  3. Select the Account Settings tool.
  4. Find the Disable AI in Transformation Wizard section.
  5. Check the Modify this setting checkbox.
  6. Check the Hide AI features in Transformation Wizard checkbox.
  7. Save the page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why don't I see the Transformation Wizard on blank or new Canvas pages?

The Transformation Wizard only appears when there is existing content that can be transformed. If your institution has the QuickStart Wizard enabled, this will appear on new or empty Canvas pages.

Does the Transformation Wizard require a particular version of DesignPLUS?

No: the Transformation Wizard is included in all DesignPLUS subscriptions. If the Transformation Wizard is enabled in the Account Settings tool, it will appear for all users who have enabled beta tools.

Do we need a particular Canvas licensing tier in order to use the Transformation Wizard's AI features?

No: AI in DesignPLUS operates independently of Canvas's AI features. You can use AI in the Transformation Wizard regardless of which Canvas tier your institution licenses.
