How does UDOIT handle course copies and blueprints?

Many instructors and instructional designers copy courses from semester to semester or use blueprint courses. When you copy a course or blueprint content, UDOIT automatically carries over your accessibility work and data to help you maintain progress without starting over.

How does it work?

The first time a course is scanned, UDOIT calls a Canvas API that detects any "source" courses that a course is copied or imported from, and retrieves the course IDs for those courses. This initial scan can be initiated either at the course level through UDOIT or at the admin level through Cidiscape. When a source course is detected, UDOIT copies its historical remediation data to the new course.

Until May 2026, UDOIT used a small file called udoit.json to identify the original course. Since this file is no longer needed for course copy identification, you're free to delete it from the Files area of your course.
