Upgrade Tool FAQ

Commonly asked questions about the behavior of the Upgrade Tool

Q: Why isn’t my page exactly the same as it was before?

As you upgrade the pages in your course, one of the things the software is doing for you is changing the Theme to a new version of the theme for your page. The new themes are based on an updated library, which results in some differences between the legacy themes and the upgraded themes.

The upgraded library better follows the web and accessibility standards of today, and as a result there will be some changes that Cidi Labs will allow to stay. These may include things like a small difference in some margins or slightly different text sizes.

Q: My page didn't upgrade as expected.  What kinds of issues should and shouldn't be reported?

Cidi Labs appreciates and has responded to many reports from customers to make the Upgrade tool better and better with each release.  However, Cidi Labs has also declined to make minor change requests too.

We suggest reporting issues such as:

  • Upgrade tool keeps spinning, finding items, or won't complete
  • Content is removed or rearranged by the Upgrade tool
  • Inline styles such as color are removed
  • Content becomes inaccessible
  • Loss of functionality after upgrade

We suggest not reporting issues such as:

  • Minor spacing (padding/margin) differences
  • Minor size differences in icons or text
  • Minor border or border radius differences
  • Issues related to your own custom CSS
  • Issues related to your own HTML anomalies

Q:  We’ve done our own customization in our Canvas theme's CSS and Javascript files.  What happens with our custom themes?

In some cases, this will result in some CSS classes not being translated into the new theme, and this may cause elements to display oddly. Please create a ticket if you believe this is the case for your page.   Cidi Labs is not responsible for your own CSS/JS customizations and will not be able to help update all of your code, but we’re always happy to take a look and see if we can help or have suggestions.  If helpful, refer to our DesignPLUS CSS Class and Id List to help you.

Q: We used a Hidden Gem, and it doesn’t seem to be working after upgrade?

Some Hidden Gems have not been added to the sidebar. For more information about the hidden gems and their statuses, check this link.

Q: What if none of the above answers are related to my question?
