What is the difference between a normal scan and a "Full Rescan" in UDOIT?

When it comes to scanning courses for accessibility issues, UDOIT allows users some flexibility to choose the scope and frequency of the scans performed on a course's Canvas content and files.

There are three ways that UDOIT can scan Canvas content and files in a course - automatic scanning, "Scan Now," and "Full Rescan." Which type of scan is used will depend on the current needs of the institution or the individual user.

Initial & Automatic Scanning

The first time a user opens UDOIT at the course-level, a full scan of that course's Canvas content and files will take place.

Please note that this initial scan could take a few seconds to several minutes to complete depending on the amount of content UDOIT is scanning for you.

Once this initial scan is completed, UDOIT will automatically scan the course no sooner than 24 hours after the most recent scan - but only if a user actually opens UDOIT for that course. If no one accesses UDOIT, the automatic scan won't run in the background.

For example: If a user runs UDOIT on Monday at 1 PM, it will scan again automatically on Tuesday no sooner than 1 PM - but only if a user opens UDOIT that day. If no one opens the tool until Friday, the next scan won't occur until then.

It is also important to note that automatic scans will only review new content that has been added since the last scan of that particular course.

"Scan Now" Feature For On-Demand Scanning

In addition to a course being scanned automatically, users can also use the "Scan Now" feature to immediately review new content without waiting for the next automatic scan. This is particularly useful in time-sensitive situations in which a user has just added new Canvas content or uploaded a file that needs to be scanned for accessibility and made available immediately to learners. In cases such as this, the "Scan Now" feature is the ideal option. Using this function will only scan new content and files that have been added since the last scan of the course.

"Full Rescan" of Courses With UDOIT

If, for any reason, you would like UDOIT to start over and run a full scan of your entire course content from scratch, you may:

  1. Select the three-dot kebab menu in the upper right (just to the right of the "scan now" button),
  2. and choose the Full Rescan option.

Select three dot menu to find the full rescan feature.

Running a Full Rescan of content will retain the "resolved" status of any items you have previously marked as resolved in UDOIT.

Again, please note that a full rescan of your course will typically take longer than a normal scan as UDOIT is scanning your entire course as opposed to just new content and files that have been added since the most recent scan.
