Users need to be made an account admin in Canvas to have access to the UDOIT Admin tool. However, no permissions need to be added to the role to access UDOIT Admin.
If a user has Canvas account admin permissions, they already have access to UDOIT Admin. However, if the user does not have any Canvas admin permissions, they cannot access UDOIT Admin.
How do I create a role for users to access UDOIT Admin?
Create the UDOIT Admin Role
To create a role for users to access UDOIT Admin,
- Open the account where UDOIT is installed
- Select Permissions in the left-hand navigation
- Select Account Roles
- Select Add Role
- Add the Role Name "UDOIT Admin"
- Select the back arrow to save the Role Name
- Close the panel
No permissions are required for this particular role.

Make the user a UDOIT Admin
Once the role is created, the user needs to be added as an account admin with the UDOIT Admin permission in Canvas. To do this,
- Open the account or sub-account where the user needs access to UDOIT Admin
- Select Settings in the left-hand navigation
- Select Admins at the top
- Scroll to the bottom of the page
- Select + Account Admin
- Change the Account Admin dropdown to UDOIT Admin
- Paste the email address of the users who need access
- Select Continue
- Once the correct users are confirmed, select OK Looks Good, Add This User
That user now has access to UDOIT Admin, but does not have any higher permissions.
What are the restrictions?
The user can perform all functions in UDOIT Admin except:
- Scan courses they do not have permissions to access (unless your institution has a Cidiscape or ReadyGO Task Runner set up).
- If they click on a course in the Courses list, they need permissions to access the course to view full details of the course.
Important Notes
The user can access any LTI that is accessible via the account navigation. Their Canvas permission level may affect their ability to perform certain tasks in those LTIs. However, this depends on how the developers implemented the permissions in their LTI. For example, a user may see Cidiscape or ReadyGO in the account navigation menu.
The user can make changes to all UDOIT settings. It is recommended to set these users in a sub-account to prevent users from making changes to the entire account.
