Users can be made a Cidiscape admin without Canvas account admin privileges. However, for users to add courses to add a Cidiscape Batch, they need to be made an account admin with the permission "Courses - View List."
How do I make a user an admin in Cidiscape?
To give a user admin access to Cidiscape, see the Cidiscape User Guide: People > Instructions > Assign an Institutional Admin. Note that the user first need to be added to Cidiscape for them to be made an admin.
Users are not required to be Canvas admins to have admin access to Cidiscape. They can access the tool via cidiscape.ciditools.com. However, if they would like to add courses to Cidiscape Batches, they need to be given a single Canvas admin permission.
How do I create a role for users to add courses to Cidiscape Batches?
If a user has Canvas account admin permissions that include the permission "Courses - View List", they can add courses to a Cidiscape batch. However, if the user does not have any admin permissions, they may not be able to add courses to Cidiscape Batches.
Create the Cidiscape Admin Role
To create a role for users to add courses to Cidiscape Batches,
- Open the account where UDOIT is installed
- Select Permissions in the left-hand navigation
- Select Account Roles
- Select Add Role
- Add the Role Name "Cidiscape Admin"
- If you also have UDOIT installed, you can name this Role "UDOIT / Cidiscape Admin"
- Select the back arrow to save the Role Name
- Enable the Permission "Courses - View List"
- Close the panel
Make the user a Cidiscape Admin
Once the role is created, the user needs to be added as an account admin with the Cidiscape Admin permission in Canvas. To do this,
- Open the account or sub-account where the user needs add courses to Cidiscape Batches
- Select Settings in the left-hand navigation
- Select Admins at the top
- Scroll to the bottom of the page
- Select + Account Admin
- Change the Account Admin dropdown to Cidiscape Admin
- If you made the permission UDOIT / Cidiscape Admin, select the correct role
- Paste the email address of the users who need access
- Select Continue
- Once the correct users are confirmed, select OK Looks Good, Add This User
That user now has the ability to create and add courses to Cidiscape Batches.
What are the restrictions?
The user can perform all functions in Cidiscape except:
- If they click on a course in the Courses list, they need permissions to access the course to view full details of the course.
Important Notes
The user can access any LTI that is accessible via the account navigation. Their Canvas permission level may affect their ability to perform certain tasks in those LTIs. However, this depends on how the developers implemented the permissions in their LTI. For example, a user may see UDOIT Admin or ReadyGO in the account navigation menu.
