What are the minimum course permissions for a user to use UDOIT?

These are the bare minimum course permissions necessary for a user to scan UDOIT.

The necessary course permissions for a user to scan a course in UDOIT are the following:

  • Announcements - view
  • Discussions - view
  • Manage Assignments and Quizzes (only if using the Kaltura integration)
    • Assignments and Quizzies - add
  • Manage Course Content
    • Course Content - add
    • Course Content - edit
  • Manage Course Files
    • Course File - add
    • Course Files - edit
  • Manage LTI (only if using the Kaltura integration)
    • LTI - add
  • Manage Pages
    • Pages - create
    • Pages - update
  • Reports - manage

Why am I receiving the "Unable to scan some Kaltura videos, your course role is not authorized to retrieve video URLs from LTI Resource Links" error while scanning a course in UDOIT?

If the course role does not have the required permissions for the Kaltura integration, users will get an error message while running a full rescan in UDOIT. This is likely because the user's course role needs to enable the following permission:

  • Manage Assignments and Quizzes - add
  • Manage LTI - add

What if we don't want to allow faculty to have these permissions?

This can be worked around by updating the UDOIT Admin Settings and allowing the Cidiscape or ReadyGO Task Runner to have the following account permissions:

  • Manage Assignments and Quizzes
    • Assignments and Quizzes - add
  • Manage LTI
    • LTI - add

To allow the Cidiscape Task Runner to retrieve video URLs,

  1. Open UDOIT Admin in the root or highest account where it is installed
  2. Select the kebab menu
  3. Select Settings
  4. Under General, toggle on the option "Use Cidiscape Task Runner to retrieve video URLs from LTI Resources Links"
  5. Select Save Settings

Then, enable the necessary permissions for the Task Runner. If you do not have a Task Runner for your institution, you can install Cidiscape by following the Cidiscape Install Instructions.

To enable these permissions for the Cidiscape or ReadyGO Task Runner:

  1. Open the root account
  2. Select Permissions
  3. Select Account Roles
  4. Locate the Task Runner role
  5. Enable the following permissions to the Task Runner:
    • Manage Assignments and Quizzes
      • Assignments and Quizzes - add
    • Manage LTI
      • LTI - add
