Why can't I manually mark a video as resolved in UDOIT if it is linked from the course Modules?

If a video is linked from the course Modules, and you have confirmed the video has captions, the video can't be manually marked as resolved via UDOIT. This is because there is no way to discreetly mark the Module item as reviewed.

UDOIT cannot discretely mark a video as reviewed in the modules. When videos are embedded into a page, they can be manually marked as resolved by adding a specific class to the HTML. However, there isn't a way for us to edit the HTML of the Modules view in Canvas without changing the name of the Module item name, which would be visible to all users.

If you have confirmed the video has captions, one workaround is to add the video directly to a page and to add the page to a module. To do this:

  1. Remove the video from the course modules
  2. Create a Canvas page with the video title
  3. Embed the video iframe using the Canvas RCE
    1. Select the Embed icon in the Canvas toolbarEmbed tool in the Canvas toolbar.
    2. Paste the Embed code
    3. Select SubmitField to paste embed code and button to select Submit.
  4. Save the page
  5. Add the page to the course Modules
  6. Rescan your course in UDOIT by selecting the Scan Now button
  7. Once the scan is complete, review the new page
  8. Confirm the video has captions
  9. Mark the issue as manually resolved
