Why can't I see the Account Settings tool in the DesignPLUS sidebar?

The Account Settings tool will only appear in the [Account Settings] page of a customizations course.

If the Account Settings tool does not appear while editing the [Account Settings] page, check the following.

Ensure you are editing the [Account Settings] page in the customizations course

The Account Settings tool will only appear in the Advanced tools if you are editing the [Account Settings] page in the Primary, Extended, or Shared Customizations course.

Confirm the Account Settings tool is enabled in your sidebar user settings

enable_account_settings-1To confirm that the Account Settings tool is enabled in your sidebar user settings,

  1. Edit a page.
  2. Open the sidebar.
  3. Select the kebab menu (More options) in the sidebar.
  4. Select User Settings.
  5. Find Enable All Advanced Tools.
  6. Confirm that the Enable Account Settings Tool checkbox is toggled on.

Confirm that the Account Settings tool is not limiting access to root account admins

This will be a setting already enabled in the Account Settings page and will be visible as part of the page content. This can be confirmed by having the following content on the Account Settings page:

Only allow root admins to edit DesignPLUS account Settings. Checked. When set, only users with root admin roles can edit Account Settings with this tool.

If this is true, confirm you have root account admin access. If you do not, a root account admin may need to make changes to the [Account Settings] page to disable this setting. Confirm the correct customizations Canvas course ID in the account JavaScript

If the customizations course ID is not applied to the Canvas Theme JavaScript correctly, the Account Settings tool will not appear. This will need to be checked by an account admin.

To check this,

  1. Open the account associated with the customizations course.
  2. Select Themes in the left-hand Navigation.
  3. Open the Current Theme in the Theme Editor.
  4. Select Upload in the top-left.
  5. Select View File for the Desktop JavaScript file.
  6. Confirm that the templateCourse is the same ID as the Primary or Extended Customizations Canvas course ID.

If the ID is incorrect, the templateCourse ID JavaScript will need to be updated to align with the Primary or Extended Customizations Canvas course ID.
