Why Did My Course Styles Suddenly Change? Is DesignPLUS Responsible?

If the styles or content of your course suddenly change, it is possible that the changes were made by DesignPLUS. However, here are some ways to rule out if DesignPLUS changed the styles of specific elements.

Does the issue persist with ?global_includes=0 at the end of the URL while viewing the content? If so, then the issue was likely not caused by DesignPLUS. For more information on how to test this, see How can I rule out if the DesignPLUS code is causing an issue on my page?

We enabled IgniteAI Agent in our Canvas instance, and things have suddenly changed.

We had reports in February 2026 that bullets suddenly disappeared from all of the pages in courses. This was due to customers enabling IgniteAI in their Canvas instances. Our team was unable to replicate this behavior or further investigate IgniteAI’s CSS because IgniteAI stores the CSS as part of its application bundle, which is hosted on a CDN (Content Delivery Network) or external server from Canvas. These files are loaded as resources when IgniteAI is enabled. Adding the ?global_includes=0 URL parameter removes the DesignPLUS JS and CSS but retains the CSS hosted by IgniteAI. If you send the HTML to the Cidi Labs support team, and we are unable to replicate the issue, this is most likely due to CSS stored in your Canvas instance or enabled by IgniteAI.

Some other behaviors we saw in February 2026 included:

  • numbering disappearing from ordered lists
  • tables unexpectedly having borders applied
  • insertion of course document links creating a new line break for the download icon, then creating another new line break for any additional text that follows the link
  • spacing and image/text alignment shifting in the banner title
  • bullets appearing in vertical item group module lists and button list module lists

If you notice any of the behaviors above or other sudden styling changes and you have verified that the issues persist when the ?global_includes=0 URL parameter is present, please reach out to Canvas support directly for further assistance. While Cidi Labs will try to help where we can, Instructure may have better access to IgniteAI resources and workarounds for these unexpected styling changes.

In the meantime, users have found that disabling IgniteAI Agent has resolved the issue when seeing this behavior.
