Why do I see a "DesignPLUS stopped itself from loading duplicate JS" warning in my browser console?
Learn why the duplicate JavaScript warning appears in your browser console and how to resolve it in Canvas themes.
You may see this warning in the Console tab of your browser’s Developer Tools (DevTools):
What does it mean?"DesignPLUS stopped itself from loading duplicate JS. Please remove the duplicate DesignPLUS Config code in your institution's JS file or contact support@cidilabs.com for assistance."
The same DesignPLUS JavaScript is loading from both the root account theme and a subaccount theme in Canvas.
This usually happens when someone copies the root account theme to create a subaccount theme and leaves the same JavaScript file attached. Since the root account’s JavaScript already applies to the subaccount, the copied file causes it to load again.
DesignPLUS prevents the second copy from loading, so it should continue working normally. The warning appears in the browser console, not on the course page.
However, other tools or custom code in the same duplicated file may also be loading twice, which could cause problems.
Ask your Canvas administrator to review the JavaScript files in the root account and subaccount themes.
If the subaccount’s JavaScript file is just a copy of the root account’s file, remove it from the subaccount theme. If it includes changes specifically for that subaccount, remove only the duplicate DesignPLUS loading code and keep the needed changes.
After applying the updated theme, reload the page and check whether the console warning is gone.
