Why is my alternate student file not showing up in my student dropdown in UDOIT?

It may take up to two hours for student-accessible content to become available. However, if you need to see a file in student view immediately, there are steps you can take to speed up this process.

Recently, changes were made to the way student-view data is loaded into the student browser. UDOIT refreshes the student view interface every two hours automatically, so it may take up to two hours from when a student file is created in UDOIT for it to be visible to your students in that file's dropdown menu.

If, however, you need immediate access to a student file that you've just added and requested an alternate format for, there are steps you can take to delete the local storage object for that course. 

Step-by-Step Guide to Making Student Files Available Immediately

  1. On the Canvas page that you want to access the alternate file format, right click and select inspect from the dropdown.
  2. Select the application tab at the top (you may need to expand the double arrows to see this option).
  3. In the menu to the left, find storage and expand the local storage menu and select https://cidilabs.instructure.com.  
  4. A list of options will populate in the main application window. Scroll to the bottom to find udoit:student_view:cidilabs.instructure.com followed by a course number.
    • You may see multiple options with this value, however, you will need to select the option that ends with the same course number that corresponds with the course number in the page's URL.
  5. Once you find the correct option, right click on it and select delete.
  6. You can now exit the application window and refresh the page. 

Your requested alternate file should now be available in the student view dropdown.
