Why is my alternate student file not showing up in my student dropdown in UDOIT?

It may take up to one hour for student-accessible content to become available. However, if a learner needs to see a file in student view immediately, there are steps that learner can take to speed up this process.

Recently, changes were made to the way student-view data is loaded into the student browser. UDOIT refreshes the student view interface every hour automatically, so it may take up to one hour from when an alternative file format is requested by a learner for it to be visible to the learner in that file's dropdown menu.

If, however, your learner needs immediate access to a file that they've just requested an alternate format for, there are steps they can take to delete the local storage object for that course. 

Step-by-Step Guide to Making Student Files Available Immediately

  1. On the Canvas page that your learner wants to access the alternate file format, right click and select inspect from the dropdown.
  2. Select the application tab at the top (they may need to expand the double arrows to see this option).
  3. In the menu to the left, find storage, expand the local storage menu and select https://cidilabs.instructure.com.  
  4. A list of options will populate in the main application window. Scroll to the bottom to find udoit:student_view:cidilabs.instructure.com followed by a course number.
    • The learner may see multiple options with this value, however, they will need to select the option that ends with the same course number that corresponds with the course number in the page's URL.
  5. Once the learner finds the correct option, right click on it and select delete.
  6. Your learner can now exit the application window and refresh the page. 

The requested alternate file should now be available and visible in the student view dropdown.
