What are the differences between DesignPLUS and UDOIT's accessibility features?

Both DesignPLUS and UDOIT offer unique accessibility advantages.

What accessibility checking is part of DesignPLUS when you are working with Canvas Content?

DesignPLUS looks for:

  • adequate color contrast
  • appropriate heading levels/order
  • image alt text
  • math equation alt text
  • link descriptions and empty links
  • table headers (bonus feature: convert layout tables to accessible, responsive columns)
  • external assets (bonus feature: quickly pull in files from other courses, to ensure proper Canvas permissions)

DesignPLUS also offers a preview of content at various screen sizes (including mobile devices), to help ensure content is properly displayed.

What does UDOIT add?

UDOIT scans the entire course and presents every error/issue it finds in one, easy to navigate interface, so you can quickly remediate content throughout your course. The DesignPLUS sidebar checks on a page by page basis.

UDOIT also scans Canvas Content for additional accessibility errors and suggestions that are not included in the DesignPLUS Accessibility Checkers.

Those who license UDOIT Advantage will be able to scan course files and convert them to alternate formats, like an auto-tagged PDF or Canvas Page.

Lastly, admins can view a dashboard that provides data on error/suggestion/resolution counts from a program/department/school/district level, as well as run batch scans across all courses.
