What does the ObservEd installation process look like?

Cidi Labs will coordinate with you to perform the installation.

We will walk your organization through the installation process. During the install call, which will be completed through Zoom, ObservEd will be installed at the Canvas root or sub-account. The call will take no more than an hour.

Steps for Installation

The steps to install ObservEd include the following:

  • Creating the ObservEd Task Runner User
    • The Task Runner is a Canvas user that is given limited account permissions to obtain data necessary for ObservEd and perform the necessary functions specific to ObservEd. The Task Runner uses the Canvas API to gather data asynchronously throughout the day, which is why we recommend setting up a unique Canvas user.
  • Creating the ObservEd Task Runner Account Role
    • The Task Runner role limits access for the Task Runner user. Permissions granted to this role can be found in our ObservEd admin guide.
  • Adding the ObservEd User as an Account Admin
  • Enabling the ObservEd Inherited Developer Key
  • Creating the Cidi Labs ObservEd LTI key
  • Creating a New Course to house the ObservEd LTI
  • Adding the LTI to the Course
  • Adding Users to the Course
  • Masquerading as the ObservEd Task Runner to generate a Canvas API token in ObservEd
  • Testing the Installation

The ObservEd LTI is enabled at the course level in the root or sub-account.

Who needs to join the installation?

A Canvas root account admin who has access to the developer keys and can masquerade as other users must be present at the call to install the tool.
