How does DesignPLUS work with Canvas Commons?

DesignPLUS content can be added to the Canvas Commons, but there are a few things to consider when adding DesignPLUS content to the Canvas Commons.

DesignPLUS content functions when importing from Canvas Commons if the user who imports the content has DesignPLUS installed in their instance.

Vanilla HTML

The content will appear as Vanilla HTML in the Commons until a user imports content from the Canvas Commons. If the user has DesignPLUS in their Canvas instance, they will see the stylized content from DesignPLUS. Note that users who are not licensed to have DesignPLUS will continue to see the Vanilla HTML in their Canvas instance.

The Vanilla HTML appears in the Canvas Commons and for users who do not have DesignPLUS installed because they do not have the necessary CSS and JavaScript in their Canvas Instance for DesignPLUS available to Cidi Labs customers.

To see how the content appears without DesignPLUS, try appending ?global_includes=0 to the end of the content URL. Adding this to the end of the URL will remove the CSS and JavaScript in your Canvas Theme. For more information on this feature, see this Knowledge Base Article: How can I rule out if the DesignPLUS code is causing an issue on my page?

Best Practice

One best practice is to include a note that the page was built with DesignPLUS from Cidi Labs so the user is aware that the styles and colors may appear differently after importing the Content to their course.
