What is the Canvas User ID?

Root account admins can obtain a Canvas user ID by locating the user in the People tab.

Often, when troubleshooting a problem specific to a single user, we will ask for the Canvas User ID of that individual.

The Canvas User ID is a unique numerical identifier in Canvas, not the user's login ID or SIS ID.

Root account admins generally have the ability to obtain the Canvas user ID. To obtain the Canvas user ID,

  1. Go to the root account.
  2. Select the People tab in the left-hand navigation.
  3. Search for the user.
  4. Once found, select that user.
  5. In the URL, you will see an ID after /users/. That ID is the Canvas User ID.

The URL should look something like https://*yourinstitution*.instructure.com/users/######.

The ###### is the Canvas User ID.
