Will content developed using the open-source version work when moving to the SaaS version?

Yes: after installing the new Sidebar, you can use the Course Upgrade tool to upgrade your content for a smooth transition.

If you have been using the open-source Design Tools but want to switch to the new DesignPLUS Sidebar, you likely want to preserve all of your Design Tools content. Because the open-source code uses all of the same IDs and classes as the legacy SaaS version of Design Tools, your content is compatible with the new Sidebar. Our developers have created two useful tools that allow you to upgrade all of your content:

  • The Course Upgrade tool allows you to review all of the Design Tools content in your course and upgrade the code so that it can be maintained and edited with the new Sidebar.
  • If you are only upgrading a few items, you can also access the Upgrade tool from the Sidebar while editing an individual content item.

There are some small styling changes to some tools in the new DesignPLUS sidebar. This is to align with the most up-to-date accessibility guidelines and to improve the overall styling of content.
